We are not a lender or a broker
PaydayLoan.Help does not make loans, arrange loans, or take loan applications. We are not a loan broker. We never refer anyone to a payday lender, and we don’t carry payday lender advertising.
Not legal or financial advice
The guides and state pages explain what laws and regulations say, in general terms. They are not legal advice or financial advice about your situation, and reading them doesn’t create any professional relationship with us. For advice about your own loans, talk to a legal aid office, an attorney, or a nonprofit credit counselor.
How referrals and compensation work
If you use the help form, we may share the information you give us with a nonprofit credit counseling agency or with a lender offering loans at 36% APR or less, so it can contact you. Nonprofit agencies do not pay us. A lender may pay us a fee if you take a loan from it.
What that does not mean:
- We never send your information to a payday lender or a debt settlement company.
- A referral is not a loan approval, and we can’t promise any rate, term or outcome.
- Compensation doesn’t change what our guides say about the law or about your options, including options that pay us nothing, like calling a credit counselor or your state regulator directly.
You never need to use our form. You can contact nonprofit counselors yourself through the NFCC or the FCAA.
The calculator is an estimate
The cost calculator does arithmetic on the numbers you enter. Its results are estimates. Your lender’s actual charges depend on your contract and your state’s law, and a credit union’s actual rate on a payday alternative loan may be lower than the 28% maximum used for comparison. The calculator’s results are not an offer of credit from anyone.
State law summaries are dated, and the statute controls
Each state page summarizes that state’s statute and regulator guidance as of the date shown on the page. Laws and rules change, and a summary can leave out details that matter for your loan. If our summary and the statute or regulator disagree, the statute and the regulator are right. Please tell us at hello@paydayloan.help so we can fix it.
No government affiliation
PaydayLoan.Help is an independent site. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any federal, state or local government agency, including the CFPB, the FTC, the NCUA, the Department of Defense or any state regulator. When we link to those agencies, it’s so you can read the rules and file complaints yourself.
No lender affiliation
We are not affiliated with any lender. Where a guide mentions a lender’s published terms, it says where and when they were published. Mentioning a type of lender, such as a federal credit union, isn’t an endorsement of any particular one.
