Payday loans in Wyoming: the rules and your way out
Payday loans allowed, with limits
Licensed post-dated check cashers may make payday loans of up to one calendar month for the greater of $30 or 20% a month, and must offer a free extended payment plan once a year.
Law: Wyo. Stat. §§ 40-14-362 to 40-14-368 (Uniform Consumer Credit Code, Art. 3, Parts 8-9). Wyoming Statutes Title 40 PDF from wyoleg.gov (file created 2026-05-08, presumably through the 2026 Budget Session).

- No dollar maximum found in W.S. 40-14-362 through 40-14-368.
- Longest term
- One calendar month (W.S. 40-14-363(b)); extended payment plans are exempt.
- Fee or rate cap
- Finance charge may not exceed the greater of $30 or 20% per month on the principal balance; it is fully earned the day the loan is made (W.S. 40-14-363(a), (c)).

At least 4 substantially equal installments over at least 60 days, due on or after paydays (or at least 2 weeks apart), with no interest or added fees while the consumer complies; prepay any time. On default the lender may accelerate and charge interest at prime plus 6% (W.S. 40-14-366).
- State loan database
- No.
- Other rights

Lender must give a written notice that refinancing is prohibited and that these loans are for short-term needs (W.S. 40-14-367).
If you are behind on a payday loan in Wyoming
- Ask for the payment plan before the due date. Wyoming law gives borrowers a way to repay in installments. The details are in the table above. Ask in writing and keep a copy.
- Stop the automatic withdrawals if they are emptying your account. You can revoke the lender's permission to debit your account and tell your bank. How to do it.
- Look at a credit union payday alternative loan. Federal credit unions can lend $200 to $2,000 at much lower cost. How they work.
- Talk to a nonprofit credit counselor. A counselor can look at all your bills, not just this one. How to find a real one.
